Beautiful Kitchen - Remodel Magazine

I received a copy of Remodel magazine in the mail today, a Better Homes & Gardens Special Interest Publication. I'm definitely psychic, that's a fact, but I never know why I'm getting these thoughts! It's been forever since this project of mine was shot by BH&G. A long time has passed. The funny thing is, they were in such a rush to shoot it. Maybe they shot it a year and a half ago? Anyway, what do you know, just yesterday I wondered, where is this feature?? It was already in the mail to me, and it had been months and months since I last thought of it.

This was a crazy project. The problems just kept coming, one after another. It's a very old house and the house just did what it wanted to do, end of story. So, I was left to figure out the ceiling due to various beams not willing to move, but they had to relate to the different kitchen sections. It worked out very well, I think, although you can't appreciate it very much in the shots.

I think it's simple, yet elegant. Gena was so much fun to work with. I don't think she says more than a few words without laughing or smiling. That made everything very enjoyable. We had a few tense times, as can happen, but it all came together beautifully in the end. Take a look...

I like how the kitchen is clean and classic. The chandelier looks amazing.

Worth waiting for! I like the warmth and the careful cabinet planning. You're right...no one would ever know it was a hassle to create; looks like it's always been there, but better. Well done!

Thanks, Stacy! There is a mix of simple and froufrou in thsi kitchen, and why not?

Wendy, thank you! I'm still waiting to see your kitchen. Come on, send me a few sneak peak images!

Pamela, good to see you, and thanks much!

Very nice kitchen. Love the chandelier! And I know all about the old house doing what it wants. That has been a constant challenge in our remodel. I'd love to hear how you dealt with some of the issues in that kitchen. Maybe that is in the text of the article. I'll have to pick up the magazine so I can read the whole thing.

As part of your kitchen design, do you also help pick paint colors, window treatments, etc.? Love the paint color and window treatment fabric in this house. It makes the kitchen feel very warm and earthy. Do you have those things in mind when you select the various elements of the kitchen, or does that come after? I'm thinking of doing very similar paint color/fabric in my kitchen, but I feel like I have to see my whole kitchen before I can really choose. I had something very different in mind when we started out. We may actually have cabinets installed next week, so I'm getting closer.

Hi Susan: It's lovely. What cabinets did you use?

Beautiful work, once again! I recently saw one of your kitchen in BHG and recognized it immediately! I think it's great that you have a blog and take such effort to "talk to the people". It really adds a personal touch to the ads and photos I see in magazines now.

What a happy kitchen space.
The white kitchen rules supreme, doesn't it?
How can you go wrong? Love it!

Congrats Susan. Lovely kitchen and nice photo layout. :)

I agree with Wendy - looks as if the kitchen was always there.
Are those Electrolux Icon ovens? Can you recommend the Icon series products?

Very nice! In the midwest they are calling kitchens like this "Hamptons Style".

Does this reflect anything seen in the Hamptons?

All of the cabinet companies are rushing to put out their take on this stlye. You were definitely ahead of the trend.

Beautiful kitchen! I love the glass front cabinets. Those ceilings look like 9'. What are your best tips for challenging 8' ceilings?

Ennis, it really depends on the space, if it's small, large, long and narrow or more square. It's really a case by case basis, in my opinion! Of course, a general point of view might be to use cabinets which reach the ceiling, single, high, cabinets, if you use wall cabinets. That will enhance a vertical look, but, again, it depends.... :)

Mike, no, I'm not ahead of this trend. This trend began in a big way in 2003 with the movie, "Something's Gotta Give." And, yes, this is still popular in the Hamptons and all over the northeast, but it's fading a bit, just a bit.

Jordan, thank you very much!!

Connie, I think they are Wolf ovens. No, my clients have not used Electrolux ovens yet. One used a refrigerator and had all sorts of problems, but, sometimes these things are isolated, so who knows.

Kelly and Laurie, thank you!

Anita, thank you so much!

RIO, those were Quality Custom Cabinetry cabinets.

Jean, well, I'd say sometimes you have the whole pictures in mind, that's most common from the start. Other times, if you're open to change, then new ideas emerge. I like to have input on paint colors, but I'm not always asked especially if an interior designer is in the picture. But, that's ok!

Very beautiful renovation. The white cabinets are so sleek. The wall tiles give a classic look to your kitchen.
