Going to KBIS in Chicago!
One of my most favorite things to do year after year is to go to KBIS. My husband usually comes with me, I see old friends, attend fabulously fabulous press events (massage event, anyone? IMAC event?) and just love the whole thing. I've been inundated with pre-KBIS emailings, postcards and other good stuff, and I look at everything.
I will be spotting trends, perusing kitchen design both good and yawn-worthy, extricating myself from nonstop talking marketing people, and watching those super-bending dancers at the hourly show at the Kohler booth. Please, kitchen Gods, don't bring back the Maxewll smart schtick at a booth I can't remember the name of, I can't deal with that again...
I am SO ready to go...leaving Wednesday and coming back on Sunday. I'll be blogging for Glam...more soon!

Ok, I'll take a look at the map! Thanks for the tip.
I really enjoy your blog! I wonder if you could give some tips for renovators on an extreme budget? I re-did my kitchen with my dad and a friend who did the plumbing and electrical work. Thanks to IKEA cabinets, the whole thing cost no more than $4000, which was all I could afford. It looks so much better, but I have been thinking that there are probably basic principles of kitchen design to follow even for such a reduced budget and I would have loved to know what they were before going ahead.
Thank you!
budget renovator, thanks for stopping by. I was a renovator on an extreme budget myself at one time, about 5 years ago. At that time, I could not do the dream kitchen, yet needed the kitchen renovated for an event, so I told myself to design something! I did. I used built in shelving, skirted fabric instead of cabinetry, but with roll out shelving behind, reused much of my cabinetry, and more. Just stop, think, and move away from your comfort zone. That's when the ideas come. Basic principles? Think, dream, make it your own.
Here's what I did: http://www.thekitchendesigner.org/journal/2007/10/19/a-budget-green-kitchen-design.html
The kitchen looks great! I'll try to take your creative approach if I end up changing anything in my kitchen.
Wow. Is it that time already? I'm not going this year so have fun for me!
Hi Susan: I love your blog and have been reading it to catch up on your marvelous ideas. I appreciated the expertise you added to NYT DHDs.
I looked for you on glam.com but couldn't find you there.
Would you be kind enough to include a link to your blog there?
Many thanks! Geraldine (AKA renovating in Orlando)
Kelly, you're there in spirit with me with fun memories of previous years!
RIO, thanks so much, I appreciate that. The show didn't start yet, it starts tomorrow, so I'll be posting there soon! Sure, will post a link. :)
