Scandinavian Kitchen - Luxe Living

OK, I think it's time for another really fabulous Scandinavian kitchen! I haven't put one up for quite some time, I'm very much overdue and wow, do I have a fantastic backlog of kitchens to show you over time, so stay tuned! I can't tell you one single thing about this kitchen, as, sadly, my parents never taught me Danish! But, since pictures are worth 1,000 words, I'm sure you'll come up with some of your own descriptions. Me? I think this kitchen is quite awesome. Love the texture, the rich feeling of the cabinetry color, the sharp, white, accents, and always a favorite to look for, the lighting. Images from Bo Bedre.
Maybe it's because I went back to Denmark, I'm not sure, but I'm loving light oak herringbone floors right now. They are everywhere, for ages, in Copenhagen, but I think there is a (small) resurgence in herringbone flooring patterns in the U.S. It's a fresh, attractive, pattern and texture to use in wood flooring. I also love the shelves in this kitchen. Anyone else see herringbone patterns heating up? Enjoy!

wow, this is a beautiful kitchen! I am liking the light colored parquet floors too - although I still personally prefer a dark shiny one! To me, there is something very relaxed and Euro about the lighter ones.
You are so right about the Euro factor for these herringbone floors. I really liked the feeling of these floors.
I love Scandinavian kitchens (as well as furniture and design), too. Just browsed through your Flickr photos, they're awesome. Good to see Illums Bolighus again! :-)
Interesting, though, that you design so many traditional and rather "opulent" kitchens. Does nobody ask for a modern kitchen?
Hi Connie, thanks for writing! Well, I'm in a traditional region, I'd say. We have small pockets of areas where people want more modern design, but, in general, no, the vast majority of people in my region want traditional styling. I'm dreaming of a modern kitchen for myself, I know just what I'd do! Do you like more modern styling?
Hi Susan - I LOVE modern styling, but it must not be "cold". Therefore I always have hardwood floors throughout, as a warm and uniting element. Furniture and kitchen (with as many fully integrated appliances as possible) have to be simple and sleek. Most of the modern Scandinavian kitchens you showed in June and July are exactly "my style". If I could, I'd live in Farnsworth House - with hardwood floors, of course. ;-)
I totally agree it must not be cold. I think Scandinavian design pushes it to the very limit of "warm", that's what I see. Farnsworth House is very interesting. I love how it's suspended above the ground, floating. It's the soft contemporary style, to me, too, that is very inviting and easy to live with.
Ooh, this is heavenly...
