2007 NKBA Design Competition Finalists: "small kitchens"

Every year the NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association) holds a competition for the best designs in a variety of categories. Here are the finalists for the "small kitchen category", the winner to be revealed at the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (it's huge!) in Las Vegas in May. There are numerous other categories which I will go through in the days ahead. Next up are the "medium kitchens" category, these are really cool and elegant. And, there is not just the "large kitchens" category left, there are a few more after that, so stay tuned!

Which one do you like and why?

I'm torn!! I love the top one because I'm a huge fan of kitchen islands and the colors are nice and warm - homey... but I love the country feel of the blue kitchen (although I've heard that blue is not the best color for a kitchen as it allegedly kills the appetite and makes food look weird - is that true, do you think?)
Not sure how I feel about the blue but it looks lovely and like it belongs in a little cottage...

Me? I know what I am.....I am definitely soft contemporary, so I vote for #2....I'd like to see more personal objects/artwork in the kitchen and I think the accessories could be coordinated better. I'm ok with the oriental rug, but it looks as if it were positioned just for the shot. I'd rather see a runner across the sink area. Overall, I think more attention should be paid to accessorizing, especially if you're shooting for "eclectic" which is always challenging, but let me tell you, we rarely get the opportunity to advise on that layer of detail. I wish I could, I'd love to! Thanks for the feedback! :-)

Oh, about the food, that's what you asked, lol, yes I've heard that for years and don't really know about that. It's actually a great question, I think I'd guess no, that would be my gut feeling. I mean, are you actually going to feel nauseous? I suppose it's ONE way of getting out of cooking every night!
