Kitchen Faucet Trends
Take a look at this little piece on faucet trends from HGTV featuring "moi" as a contributor! I'm frequently asked for kitchen related information by writers from online and print media outlets, but this was my fabulous (lol!) deput on HGTV's website!
The author is the superb wordsmith, Leah Hennen, from More Ways To Waste Time, an interesting, and often provocative blog.
And, yes, I did notice at the last kitchen show in the spring, how faucets are becoming even more modern, wtih a sculptural sort of look. And, yes, the finishes, well, just take your pick, there are so many to choose from.
Gone are the days when you have to match the metal finishes throughout the kitchen (faucet, lighting fixtures, hardware, hinges, sink, and whatever else is a metal.) SO gone! Sure, keep a keen eye on what's happening with your metals in and around the kitchen, but you are set free to explore the world of finishes, and manufacturers who make faucets understand this trend toward personal expression.
Likewise, consider mixing modern faucets with a traditionally styled kitchen. There should be some sort of eclectic theme going on first, but, your faucet style surely contributes to your overall design "message." A more utilitarian type faucet may be a better bridge aesthetically to blend with a traditional kitchen than a super sleek style. That's possible, but again, needs care and caution in selecting your materials to achieve an eclectic look that makes sense.

We have Dornbracht faucets in our house in Germany, and although they are very pricey (even in the country of their origin), they're worth the money. No comparison to cheeper products.
I'm glad to see more modern faucets being produced in America - we want to use as many U.S. products as possible when renovating our Florida home.
"Downside: What's cutting-edge today won't always be in vogue." I think this comment on the "Sleek, Streamlined Simplicity" page is kind of odd. Nothing will always be in vogue.

Well, there's good, modern, design, and then there are trends. What's cutting edge also doesn't mean that it is a trend, there's a big difference. It may just mean that it's new, but in such a market niche that it doesn't translate into a trend. Just random thoughts!
Keep me in the loop about what you're doing with your Florida home when you have a chance...would love to peak in.
What a timely post, Susan! We're at this point right now, deciding on what way we'll go with our kitchen faucet. After spending the weekend buying lighting fixtures and fans I'm now intimately aware of how the infinite amount of choices can put someone into a catatonic state.
Now do we spend a little extra and go for a designer piece like the beautiful and sleek Dornbracht you have pictured above or just go with something more standard and save the few hundred bucks? Do you have any favorite fixtures that fall in the under <$300 range?

Thanks for your thoughts on the cutting edge topic, Susan. I think you're right. Nevertheless, trends don't last forever either. When I look at my mother's 1980s kitchen, I realize that brown tile was a trend but is definitely no longer en vogue. (I'm grateful for it. LOL)
I'd love to share what we'll do with our Florida home, but I don't know when the redo will happen - DH and I still have to work some years.

Your initial question is the classic conflict between $$$ and the word "should." Here's my answer. If the extra money is going to stress you out and stretch things a bit too thin financially (as opposed to just not wanting to spend more) then don't do it. It's not worth the stress. That's always my barometer. If you can afford it and appreciate good design and good quality, then of course, go for it!
Under $300, you have a huge selection of NICE faucets. Delta, Moen, Kohler, Danze (Delta) and ShowHouse, and one more, Price Pfister, all have great looking faucets. It's not like it used to be years ago when you could really tell the less expensive faucets. Now, it's actually tough to tell what's expensive and what's not.

Simplicity can also be the best. Nowadays, mothers also design their home especially their kitchen in a more modern way but some would still stick with what's old and simple. And you're right, the faucet style contributes to the overall design. Nice review you have there!
